Let's start with Article 2 of EU Regulation no. 1321/2014 which describes that maintenance is a combination of the following operations or just one of them: "overhaul, repair, inspection, replacement, modification or defects correction in an aircraft or its component, except for pre-flight inspection. Any person or company in charge of maintenance will be responsible for the interventions performed ".
Besides, it is the "Maintenance" table that illustrates the forecasts of part M regarding the person who can carry out and approve the maintenance on the aircraft and its components concerning the classification of the aircraft itself and the type of use.

Where to repair aircraft components? Who repairs aircraft components?


IATS Group, a company certified by ENAC Part 145 concerning C20 structural components, for components other than complete engines or APU, is also included among the MRO.
The repair activities of the components are carried out starting from a first inspection phase, during which the different pieces are subjected to a careful analysis.
The initial study allows to evaluate the degree of component use and to identify with precision the treatments to be carried out.

Have you ever wondered where the aircraft maintenance is carried out and by who? And how is it carried out?
Each of us has some kind of experience with cars. We all know that when we reach certain mileage intervals, it is necessary to subject the vehicle to a check to continue to keep it efficient and to keep working as the years' pass.
The same goes for airliners and civil aviation aircraft.

First of all, the onboard sensors help to get a global idea of the overall health of the aircraft and many minor interventions are carried out frequently. This happens in particular with the inspections of the wheels of the trolleys, the fluid levels of the hydraulic systems...
Alongside these procedures, we find the scheduled coupons, based on the hours of flight performed, the cycles performed, the old age of an aeroplane.
These controls are defined as Check and are divided into four levels, from A to D.
The closer we get to D, the longer and more thorough these checks are.


Let's see in detail:
• A Check: it takes place approximately every 10 weeks. All filters are replaced and the most important moving parts are lubrificated, such as the control surfaces. Emergency equipment is inspected;
• B Check: it traditionally belonged to older generation aircraft. On the more modern ones, the check is released in the following steps;
• C Check: it is carried out every 18 months and lasts an average of 3 weeks. The aircraft systems are tested. If necessary, they are disassembled, inspected and reassembled;
D Check: it is the most thorough inspection. It is carried out every 6 years. At this stage, the plane is completely disassembled in all its parts. The inspection is carried out and the metal structure is the only part left in view because it will be carefully examined for any stress or other damage.

CL-215 Avincis maintenance
The CL-215 Avincis maintenance is a process of fundamental importance to always ensure high vehicle performance.
IATS Group, an ENAC Part 145 certified company for C20 structural components, for components other than complete engines or APU, offers this essential service.
We operate on the different metal components suggested by the same customer. We work at our headquarters in Roccadaspide, where we receive the components on which we are going to work.

Each component is carefully evaluated in a preliminary analysis allowing to identify of any further criticality undetected by the customer.
We communicate with the customer about the problems encountered. Then we start the proper work.
The material operations are carried out by an experienced and professional team that operates with state-of-the-art machinery.

This process is adopted for any component and therefore also for those of the CL-215 Avincis.
The Canadair CL-215 is an amphibious aircraft designed for firefighting. It can also operate on semi-prepared runways and of course on water.
It entered service in 1969 and is characterized by turboprop engines of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW123AF type with a quadruple propeller.
It can load 5,443 litres of water in 12 seconds thanks to two retractable probes.
The load is released by the opening of two doors.
It was the world’s most popular firefighting aircraft until the advent of CL-415.
It is particularly appreciated for the possibility to release the water from the doors on the wings and not on the belly.

ATR 42 Maintenance
Operating in ATR 42 maintenance operations, IATS Group can perform tasks on specific components thanks to ENAC Part 145 certification.
The operations are carried out by an experienced and professional staff working with state-of-the-art equipment and machinery.
Everything happens in our headquarters in Roccadaspide and goes through different phases.

First, the component is received and analyzed. This first approach allows identifying the critical issues pointed out by the client and also to identify other problems.
The ENAC Part 145 certification for C20 structural components, for components other than complete engines or Apus, allows us to operate on specific parts of the aircraft.
In this way, we create a process of maintenance, repair and reconditioning that allows giving new life to the component, ready to be used again.
The work carried out quickly, giving the possibility to different operators to reduce the costs related to the non-use of the aircraft.

The ATR 42 entered service on December 3, 1985, with Air Littoral.
It is a twin-engined regional turboprop airliner used for short-haul passenger transport.
Characterized by a strong acceleration during take-off, low consumption and the possibility to start even from short runways.
The ATR 42 is available in passenger versions:
• ATR 42-200;
• ATR 42-300;
• ATR 42-320;
• ATR 42-500;
• ATR 42-400;
• ATR 42-600;
• ATR 42-600S STOL.


The derived versions are:
• ATR 42L: cargo version - Bulk Freighter (Tube Versions) and ULD Freighter (Large Cargo Door).
• ATR 42 MP "Surveyor": military version; for maritime patrol, derived from version 500.

CL-415 Avincis Maintenance
IATS Group operates in the maintenance of the CL-415 Avincis thanks to being an ENAC Part 145 certified company for C20 structural components.
The work is carried out physically at the headquarters in Roccadaspide through the work of an experienced and qualified team that uses modern tools and machinery.
The work begins with the first phase of analysis allowing the identification of all the problems related to the components.


Afterwards the results of the analysis phase are communicated and then the actual repair work is carried out using complex welding operations.
The maintenance, repair and reconditioning activities allow to preserve the integrity of the vehicle and always ensure high performance.

The CL-415 is a twin-engined high-wing turboprop amphibious aircraft built firstly by the Canadian company Canadair, then by Bombardier Aerospace and later by Viking Air Limited.
It is an aircraft designed to fight fires thanks to the possibility of efficiently operating in forested and rich in water regions.
It was developed by Canadair to create a more powerful version of the earlier CL-215 by adopting a new domestic turboprop engine, two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW123AF.
Released in 1994, it can load 6,137 litres of water in 12 seconds.
The multi-role version also works for maritime patrol and search and rescue.

ATR 72 Maintenance
The maintenance of the ATR 72 allows you to always keep your vehicle in excellent health while ensuring excellent performance and safety.
Released in 1989 by Finnair, the ATR 72 is a regional airliner manufactured by the Italian-French consortium ATR.
It can carry up to 72 passengers and 4 crew members.

Thanks to the ENAC Part 145 certification, IATS Group can perform maintenance and reconditioning operations on C20 structural components, for components other than complete engines or APU.
Those are processes of fundamental importance allowing you to always maintain the aircraft in good shape ensuring ideal performance.
The service is carried out at the headquarters in Roccadaspide and is performed by an experienced and professional staff working with state-of-the-art machinery and tools.
The component is sent by the customer, often with details on the problems encountered.
Then it is subjected to visual inspection aimed to identify other problems and then goes into processing.
Each piece is disassembled, photographed and catalogued. It is restored to the optimal state and validated by the certified staff.

A similar process also occurs for the components of the ATR 72, an aircraft equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW124B turboprop engines.
It can reach a maximum speed of 509 km/h and has a range of 1500 km.
It is made in passenger and military versions.
